Rachel Jin is a graphic designer, animator, illustrator, and artist based in Ottawa.

ABOUT

I didn't start with animation. I started with a brush.

In China, I earned a Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts Education, with several of my works collected by the university. I went on to spend five years teaching high school art and leading the art department — which taught me as much about creativity as any studio ever did.

Moving to Canada meant starting over in the best way. I trained in 2D animation and found myself working on productions you might actually recognise — shows made for Disney, Sony, Netflix, and YouTube, at studios including Brownbag Films, 9 Story Media Group, Jam Filled Entertainment, and Mercury Filmworks. Over a decade of deadlines, frame counts, and characters that needed to feel alive.

These days I balance animation work with freelance graphic design and running a small art studio in Ottawa, where I teach drawing. I think of myself as a generalist at heart — someone who moves between disciplines because that's just how I've always worked.

If you're working on something interesting, I'd love to hear about it.
